Houses, flats, rooms, cottages, stands and farms for sale and to rent, posted by owners and agents. Search by town and suburb, and filter by price and bedrooms. Never pay a deposit before a viewing, and check the title deeds or cession papers before you buy.
For property with title deeds, search the Deeds Registry (there are offices in Harare and Bulawayo) or ask a registered conveyancer to do it for you. The search shows the registered owner and any bonds or caveats; compare the owner's name with the seller's ID. Do this before you sign an agreement of sale or pay a deposit.
Title deeds are registered at the Deeds Registry, and a transfer is done by a conveyancer. Many stands in council and developer schemes are held under an agreement of sale and change hands by cession, which is recorded by the council or the developer, not the Deeds Registry. For a cession stand, check the seller's rights with the council or developer before you pay.
No. View the property first, confirm that the person letting it is the owner or a registered agent, and pay against a written lease and a receipt. Be wary of anyone who asks for a viewing fee or a deposit to hold a property you haven't seen.
