Find cars, bakkies, SUVs, kombis and trucks for sale across Zimbabwe, from private sellers and dealers. Every ad shows the price, the town and how to reach the seller. Before you pay, see the car, drive it, and check that the registration book matches the seller’s ID.
ZIMRA lists the original vehicle registration book, a valid police clearance (valid for 14 days from the date it is stamped), proof of residence and national ID cards for buyer and seller, and the original agreement of sale. The agreement must show both parties' names, addresses and ID numbers, the make, model, year, engine and chassis numbers, the full price and both signatures. A second-hand car bought locally also attracts special excise duty, based on its year of manufacture and engine size.
Don't pay until there is a police clearance for the car and the papers match it. The engine and chassis numbers on the car should match the registration book and the clearance, and the name in the registration book should match the seller's ID. If the seller won't get a police clearance before you pay, walk away.
No. ZIMRA's guidance says second-hand vehicles aged ten years and above from the date of manufacture may not be imported. Check the year of manufacture before you pay an exporter, and check ZIMRA's current rules first, as import rules can change.
ZIMRA lists the invoice or agreement of sale, a police clearance (a SARPCO certificate when the car comes from a Southern African country), the export bill of entry, the registration book for a used car, and the freight and insurance statements. ZIMRA can reject a declared value that doesn't reflect the car's open-market value and reassess the duty. Duty rates change, so check them with ZIMRA or a registered clearing agent before you buy.
A vehicle used on public roads needs a valid ZINARA vehicle licence and at least third-party insurance, which is compulsory. Make sure both are in place before you drive off.
