What should I check before buying a puppy?
See the puppy with its mother where you can, ask for its vaccination and deworming record, and check its age; most breeders let puppies go at about eight weeks. Never pay a deposit for a puppy you haven't seen, as pet deposit scams are common.
Where can I adopt a dog or cat?
The SPCA in Harare and in Bulawayo rehomes dogs and cats, and people also offer animals free to a good home in our Pets section. Expect to be asked about your home and garden before you adopt.
I've lost my pet. What should I do?
Post a lost pet notice with a clear photo and the area where it went missing, call local vets and the SPCA, and share the notice in your neighbourhood WhatsApp groups. Be careful with anyone who asks for money before returning a pet.
